Pollo, Pollo, Pollo
I generally dislike reading about food for a variety of reasons. As a matter of fact, I believe the closest I've come to doing so is perusing a handful of reviews on yelp.com or the like. It is not intended to offend anyone, but a big reason for my dislike is that most blogs and sites dedicated to the topic revolve around a bunch of trendy BS -- i.e. "OMG, this Korean BBQ taco truck is SO awesome!!"
Meanwhile, there are a lot of great places in South LA/inner city, serving up some excellent food, yet (undeservedly) little fan fare surrounds them because they lack the trendiness factor. So I decided to put my energy to good use and will periodically highlight some of those great places for all of us to enjoy.
For the inaugural post on this topic, I bring you El Jalapeño Tacos.
Although the name implies it is a taco joint, they offer quite a bit more beyond that, including Mexican style flame broiled chicken, which is the reason why I go there.
This is some of the best chicken you'll find in L.A. Its got a nice smoky flavor, combined with whatever rub it is they put on it, and it literally falls off the bone because it is so juicy and tender -- even the breast meat.
An entire chicken will set you back $13 and some change, and comes with a side of beans, rice, tortillas and some killer hot sauce. It easily feeds four.
El Jalapeño Tacos is on the corner of Francis and Vermont Avenue, between 8th and 9th Street in L.A. Parking is very tight and meters tend to be broken, but well worth the hassle.
Address: 854 South Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles
